What is an Amazon sales calculator?

An Amazon book sales calculator converts a public Best Sellers Rank into a sketch of how many copies that listing might be moving. Authors use it to read a competitor, a comparable title, or a listing without opening KDP reports.

It is not Amazon’s dashboard. BSR is relative and noisy. Treat the output as a range, then confirm units in KDP if the title is yours.

On the Amazon product page, scroll to Product details. Copy the paid rank in Kindle Store (eBook) or Books (paperback), not a category rank.

Look for Amazon Best Sellers Rank. If the listing is free, the rank is a free rank and should not be entered here.

Use the store rank

Copy the paid rank in Kindle Store or Books. Ignore “#12 in Romantic Suspense” style category lines — those ranks are not comparable.

Frequently asked questions

Best Sellers Rank (BSR) is Amazon’s hourly ranking of how a title is selling relative to others in that store. A lower number means more recent sales. Kindle Store and Books (print) each have a separate list.
A log-log curve fitted to historical rank-to-sales observations converts rank into estimated monthly copies. Daily figures assume a 30-day month. Amazon does not publish the real mapping, so the result is an estimate, not a report from KDP.
No. Enter the rank that matches the format. A Kindle Store rank of 10,000 is not the same volume as a Books rank of 10,000. Category ranks (for example “#50 in Cozy Mystery”) are also not interchangeable with the store rank.
No. Only the overall paid rank in Kindle Store or Books should be used. Category ranks are easier to reach and would overstate copies if they were treated as store ranks.
Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading page reads move BSR but are not 1:1 with a paid unit. The estimate treats rank as paid-equivalent volume, so KU-heavy titles may look busier than unit sales in KDP reports.
Often, sometimes several times a day. A spike after a newsletter or a promo can look huge for a few hours. Check more than one snapshot, or average a few days, before treating a rank as a run rate.
