J.K. Reeve has been around computers since the Commodore 64, which means he's watched the whole arc — from machines that did what you told them to machines that talk back. He thinks it's an amazing time to be alive.
He also thinks people are afraid of the wrong thing. It isn't AI we should worry about. It's the humans training it. Point a model at weapons and it will do real damage — no differently than we would. Point it at helping people and it'll do something remarkable. Most of the AI out there right now, he suspects, is genuinely trying to get it right.
That's the question underneath the Dex Calloway Thrillers: everyone knows what the right thing to do is. Only the machine actually does it.
