A. Hold Interview

  • Q. Can you tell us a little about yourself and what inspired you to become a writer?

Ans. Since I was 4, I loved telling stories. I would gather my pets and stuffies to tell them stories I made up. (According to my mom, that is) I always had this love for writing. I started out writing for apps as a hobby. Until I found out about indie publishing, I jumped at the chance to share my stories with people who love them.

  • Q. What genre(s) do you primarily write in, and what draws you to that particular genre?

Ans. Fantasy romance, especially Queer fantasy romance. I love getting lost in new worlds, where the everyday rules do not always apply. I remember watching shows like The 7th Kingdom and wondering why the main characters would ever get back to earth. So now I create the worlds I would want to stay in.

  • Q. What is your favorite book, and what about it resonates with you the most?

Ans. My favorite book is Alpha of Immortal Flesh. I love queer retellings, so there is that. But this particular book is full of hidden meaning and small hints that only reveal themselves later in the book. It is a love story that started off with heartbreak, breaks your heart a few more times while reading, and then mends it again.

  • Q. Who is your favorite author, and how have they influenced your writing?

Ans. Ben Alderson, mostly he showed me that you can just be an indie author and write books with the representation we wanted as kids.

  • Q. How do you balance writing with other aspects of your life, such as work, family, or hobbies?

Ans. I have a very supportive partner, and I work in care, which means irregular shifts. I do my best writing in my mornings off, when the kids are at school, and my partner is working.

  • Q. How do you show appreciation and love to your followers and readers? Do you actively engage with them on social media or through other means?

Ans. Yes, I have a Street team, where I show more of my personal life, and I have characters named after my readers in every book. And every Christmas, I add a holiday novella to my newsletter.

  • Q. What do you enjoy most about being an author, and what keeps you motivated to continue writing?

Ans. I love sharing my stories with people who enjoy them and small messages about how my book touched someone. Or helping them with something are they highlight of my day.

  • Q. Have you ever faced writer's block, and if so, how do you overcome it?

Ans. Yes, I have set writing hours to keep up with deadlines, and I make myself write, knowing it is bad. Slowly, I will get my motivation back and I will just redo the badly written scenes.

  • Q. Can you share any interesting or funny anecdotes from your writing journey?

Ans. My father loves books as much as I do; he wanted to read my debut book when I warned him it had adult romance. He looked me dead in the eyes and said, if I did not have an adult romance with your mother, you would not be an author. It was really awkward in the moment, but I can laugh about it now, and it does show how supportive my parents are of my writing career.

  • Q. What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are just starting their writing journey?

Ans. Do not write the stories you think readers want to read! Write the stories you want to tell, because there is a reader out there for every book.

  • Q. Do you have any upcoming projects or works in progress that you'd like to share with your readers?

Ans. I am writing book 2 of the Refractured Realms series, a sapphic retelling. But my bigger project is to write one of the most inclusives if not the most inclusive serie of standalones. Where everyone within the LGBTIAQ+ community finds a main character like them.

  • Q. Finally, what are your goals and aspirations as a writer? Where do you see yourself and your writing career in the future?

Ans. To have everyone find a main character in one of my books that they can identify with.
